"highjack this fags" how fuckwitted is it that the worst insult you can possibly throw at someone is that they're gay? apparently is worse than calling them terrorists! can anyone tell me the last time the gay liberation front hijacked anything (except perhaps a bad hairdo?) we're bombing the tailliban for crimes possibly connected to someone in their country (although the whole idea of due process seems to have died, and heaven forbid we should actually be trusted with the evidence that may prove any links) and the best 'message' the armed forces can come up with is to call them 'fags' if that isn't fuckwitted enough, the paper then decides that this is an appropriate photo and 'message' to print to show us what a grand job is being done in our name just to illustrate how totally fuckwitted it is, the headline on the page read "US pilots say bombing Taliban is 'awesome'"

Waging war
I agree that this is totally fuckwitted. What gets me is the hypocrisy of the situation. George W bangs on about defending the freedoms that America holds dear. However, any views suggesting that bombing Afghanistan might not be such a good idea are considered un-patriotic and are suppressed. Presumably the Associated Press photographer thought that this was a suitably patriotic image. Forget freedom of the press, forget stamping out homophobia – George W is not going to let the twin towers of the US constitution and the bill of rights stand in his way
Thought I might make a couple of comments as if we are not careful this might end up being a bit of a CND meeting in here.
"heaven forbid we should actually be trusted with the evidence that may prove any links" - the reason we have not been told all the evidence is because it could put at risk the lives of some of our military personnel. Mr Blair has seen it as have the other leaders of the main political parties in the UK and they agree that the evidence is very very compelling. Even Pakistan agrees. Be reasonable here.
As for the comments on the bombs, I totally agree but don't get to worked up about it. Remember that the personnel on the aircraft carriers are pretty dumb and don't really understand. If times were different we would probably refer to them as cannon fodder. They are not employed to think (thank god). I think it is safe to say that they are not the ones making the decisions.
What do you mean about 'due process'? What's the point in trying the nut case if he is not in custody? And as for the Taliban, there is such a thing as accessory and even accessory after the fact. The regime is undeniably brutal (remember ladies you have almost no rights in Afghanistan) and they openly support the views for Mr bin Laden.
Lets hope that this war is short but remember, this is a war and in war people die. That's the stark reality of it all and I honestly believe that as Tony said, inaction is much more dangerous than action.
The Taliban are undeniably brutal but the Northern Alliance are no better. Their treatment of women is equally abhorrent. Yet all of a sudden, these anti-Taliban warlords are flavour of the month. US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said it would be "all to the better" if airstrikes helped the opposition.
P.S.
I nearly forgot to mention that various northern alliance members were allies of Osama Bin Laden after he fled to Afghanistan in 1996. Bin Laden was certainly wanted by the US then for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the killing of 19 US soldiers in Saudi Arabia in 1996. I guess that makes parts of the northern alliance accessory to anti-US terrorist acts.
'Slur was inappropriate' say US Navy
More news on this pic, spotted via the fantastic http://spankmesilly.com/ (for when it moves from the front page there's a version at http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,36834,00.html too).
Various folk have got all offended, reasonably to my mind. The US Navy are talking about how the Navy does not tolerate discrimination, that this is an "isolated incident" and that they've taken steps to "prevent a recurrence of this unfortunate incident".
Erm, right. An isolated incident. Of course.
I'll leave the Rear Admiral joke to Crush on spankmesilly - as she delivers the gag with more panache ;-).
rear admiral jokes aside, i think it just goes to show that those crazy soldja bois have a sense of humour.
c'mon, "High Jack This", written on a phallic symbol torpedoing towards them? Sheer brilliance!
I think homosexuals everywhere should be happy that their name is being used for such a righteous and just operation, that of 'enduring freedom'
Much like i'm sure Allah likes getting his sponsorship and endorsement over all the suicide missions, yah.
